Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto chaired a limited cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace on Monday (20/4/2026) to accelerate the development of the "Giant Sea Wall" along Java’s northern coastline (Pantura) to mitigate rising sea levels.
"The President has ordered an immediate acceleration of construction plans to safeguard critical infrastructure and coastal communities," said Head of the Northern Coast Authority Vice Admiral (ret.) Didit Herdiawan Ashaf, as reported by antaranews.com
The strategic project aims to protect 60 percent of Indonesia’s industrial zones and over 30 million residents currently threatened by coastal erosion. During the session, the President also instructed universities to integrate their maritime research into the project to ensure structural efficiency. This multi-ministerial effort involves the Ministry of Higher Education and Science to utilize domestic resources and proven flood-mitigation technologies, such as those successfully trialed in Demak.
Authorities are currently finalizing the resource allocation and technical timelines to ensure the project remains cost-effective. The government views this massive dike as a vital defense system for the nation’s long-term economic stability and environmental resilience.
