Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Following a historic achievement in rice self-sufficiency within his first year, President Prabowo Subianto has set his sights on broader food and protein sovereignty.
Speaking at the 2026 Indonesia Economic Outlook on Friday (13/2/2026), the President revealed that national rice reserves at Bulog have reached an all-time high of 4.2 million tons, providing a stable foundation for the next phase of national development.
"We have proven our rice self-sufficiency; now, we move toward total food sovereignty," President Prabowo declared, as cited by antaranews.com.
To achieve this, the administration is prioritizing a "Fishing Village" initiative, targeting the development of 1,000 modern coastal hubs by late 2026 and 5,000 by 2029.
These villages will be equipped with ice plants, cold storage, and fuel subsidies managed through cooperatives to boost protein production. Furthermore, the President announced plans to slash red tape, allowing these villages to export seafood directly to global markets, ensuring that local economic growth remains both "real and inclusive."
