Inp.polri.go.id - Cirebon.  President Prabowo Subianto will lead a national movement to tackle waste management in Indonesia, aiming for 100% waste handling by 2029, Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said on Friday (13/6/2025).

Speaking during a visit to the Kopi Luhur landfill in Cirebon, West Java, he noted the government’s 2025 target is 51.21%.

“Based on the latest cabinet meeting, the President will lead the national movement himself. There will be intensified action,” Minister Hanif said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The target is mandated under Presidential Regulation No. 12/2025 on the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN).

Local administrations have been urged to comply with administrative sanctions issued against 343 landfills still using open dumping. Legal action may follow in non-compliant areas, particularly in cases involving fires.

The government is also pursuing waste-to-energy projects in high-waste regions, with a regulation on accelerating waste-to-energy plants( PLTSa) currently under interministerial review.
