Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto announced plans to develop 2,000 fishing villages and open 480,000 hectares of new rice fields as part of his strategy to boost Indonesia’s agricultural and fisheries sectors.
Speaking on Monday (29/9/2025), he said the initiative aims to raise incomes for millions of farmers and fishermen.
“One fishing village consists of about 2,000 fishermen. If we build 2,000 villages, that means four million fishermen and, with their families, 16 million Indonesians will see their income increase,” President Prabowo said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The program includes cold storage facilities and docks to improve efficiency, with pilot projects in Biak, Papua, showing income increases of up to 100 percent. The President also pledged to build 20,000 hectares of shrimp ponds on Java’s northern coast, projected to create 130,000 jobs. Meanwhile, state logistics agency Bulog will construct 100 new warehouses, funded by Rp 5 trillion, to store rising rice production.
