Inp.polri.go.id - Tanjung Banon. President Prabowo Subianto envisions Indonesian villages becoming self-sufficient like those in Europe, said Minister of Transmigration Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara during a visit to Tanjung Banon, Riau Islands, on Thursday (25/9/2025). 

He explained that the government aims to build villages with food, energy, and water independence while serving as centers of economic growth.

“We often hear the vision of President Prabowo Subianto that all villages in Indonesia should be like those in Europe, self-sufficient villages,”Minister Iftitah said, as reported by antaranews.com. 

He added that Tanjung Banon is being developed as a model to fulfill this goal.

The ministry is working with seven leading Indonesian universities, Raja Ali Haji Maritime University, and Professor Walter Timo de Vries of the Technical University of Munich, a long-time transmigration researcher. 

Prof. Walter noted improvements since the 1980s, when transmigrants received only land and housing, compared with today’s modern infrastructure including schools, markets, and places of worship. The ministry also plans collaboration with other agencies and private businesses to support the project.
