inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Trade Minister Budi Santoso emphasized that the government's policy of banning the import of used clothing is intended to protect public health and domestic micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
"Through Ministerial Regulation Number 47 of 2025 concerning Goods Prohibited from Import, used clothing with Tariff Item or HS 6309.00.00 is included in the category of goods prohibited from import," explained the Trade Minister on Wednesday (2/4/2026).
Minister Budi explained that used clothing is categorized as prohibited from import as the regulation is meant to protect human health and safety, as mandated by Law Number 7 of 2014.
In addition to considering health and safety aspects, the Trade Minister continued, the ban on used clothing imports has several reasons: first, to protect the apparel industry, especially MSMEs; second, the higher multiplier effect on the economy when the domestic industry is active.
"Third, to prevent Indonesia from becoming a destination for textile waste, which adds to environmental problems," the Trade Minister emphasized.
Furthermore, he said the Ministry of Trade, through the Directorate General of Consumer Protection and Trade Order (Ditjen PKTN), consistently monitors and takes action against the illegal importation of used clothing in various regions.
He admitted that in carrying out enforcement during the 2022-2025 period, the Directorate General of PKTN also synergized with ministries or institutions and law enforcement officials such as the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police, the West Java Regional Police, the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla), the State Intelligence Agency, and the Strategic Intelligence Agency of the Indonesian National Military (TNI).
