inp.polri.go.id – The training program at the Bukit Randu Hotel, Bandar Lampung City was aimed to improve the capability of personnel in handling natural disaster. The training participants consisted of personnel from the Lampung Regional Police, Armed National Forces, Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), National SAR Agency (Basarnas), and other relevant agencies. The program was also attended by several main officials of Lampung Police. Lampung Police Chief, Inspector General Akhmad Wiyagus, said that the situation could drastically change due to the global warming, and this issue has become a global concern. Global warming causes weather changes, natural disasters, the rising of sea levels, and this situation will require serious handling. "I hope this training will could be implemented in real-life duties and carried out continuously and also always cooperating with other stakeholders in handling natural disaster identification," said the former Gorontalo Police Chief. Meanwhile, the disaster in Lampung Province itself is predicted to be a prone area to potential disaster threats, including earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, volcanic eruptions, and other disasters. He explained that the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) is a procedure to identify victims who died due to natural disaster, which can be legally and scientifically justified and this procedure refers to the Interpol DVI Guideline. "DVI is needed for the identification process of the bodies for the purposes of investigation, upholding human rights, and the legality of the bodies themselves," said the Lampung Police Chief. DVI cannot be done alone, it must involve relevant stakeholders such as BPDP, Basarnas, Health Office, Social Service, Central and Regional Hospitals, as well as other relevant agencies and it requires the disciplines of the personnel for the identification process.
