inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) recorded that public investment of up to IDR 54 trillion has been used to build Free Nutritional Meal (MBG) kitchens or Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) throughout Indonesia.
"Approximately IDR 54 trillion of investor funds has been invested in the SPPG development sector," said BGN Head Dadan Hindayana, Thursday (4/16/2026).
He said that currently, around 27,000 SPPGs are operating from Sabang to Merauke, all of which were built through investment from the community and partners.
He further explained that community-led SPPG construction is much faster than relying solely on government funding. In 2025, BGN had a budget of around IDR 6 trillion, but was only able to build 315 units, not all of which are operational.
Conversely, investor involvement has accelerated the massive construction of MBG kitchens in various regions. The BGN Head stated that during the construction process, one SPPG unit can absorb around 15 to 20 local workers and encourage the circulation of materials within the region.
Once its running, each SPPG manages a budget of approximately IDR 1 billion per month, with 70 percent used to purchase raw materials from farmers, livestock breeders, fishermen, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Meanwhile, approximately 20 percent of the budget is used for operations, including salaries for 47 local volunteers, earning between IDR 2.4 million and IDR 3.2 million each, and 10 percent for investment returns.
"Now, it's unheard of for agricultural products to be wasted; everything is put to optimal use," said Dadan BGN.
He added that the MBG program has involved approximately 1.1 million volunteers throughout Indonesia and benefited approximately 62 million recipients, including pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers.
According to him, the high level of community participation demonstrates that the MBG program is not only a nutritional intervention but also a community-based driver of the national economy.
BGN hopes that collaboration between the government, communities, and the business world can continue to be strengthened to expand the reach of SPPGs, including to remote areas, where the target is to reach 9,000 units to serve approximately 3 million residents.
