Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The task force on Cesium-137 has imposed a special radiation incident status at the Modern Cikande industrial estate in Serang Regency, Banten, after detecting multiple contamination points.
“Starting today, the Cesium-137 task force has declared the Modern Cikande industrial estate under a special radiation incident,” Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said Tuesday (30/9/2025).
He stressed that all access to and from the estate will be strictly controlled by the task force.
From Wednesday, movement will be monitored through Radiation Portal Monitoring (RPM). Pending installation, police, the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (Bapeten), and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) are conducting manual checks. Contaminated materials will not be allowed out until they are grounded and decontaminated.
Authorities have identified ten hotspots, two of which have been cleaned. Eight remain under detailed mapping. The source has been traced to PT Peter Metal Technology, where decontaminated waste is being stored under Bapeten and BRIN supervision.
