Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The legendary Amorphophallus titanum, commonly known as the giant corpse flower, has reached full bloom at the Bogor Botanical Gardens in West Java.
The rare botanical event culminated early Friday when the flower's spathe fully opened at 12:.24 am, following a development phase that began in late January.
"On Thursday,, the corpse flower reached its full bloom phase, with the spadix towering to 140 cm and a flower diameter of 56 cm," said Yudhistira, the Horticulture Senior Manager at PT Mitra Natura Raya, on Saturday (7/2/2026), as quoted by antaranews.com
This specific specimen, identified as collection number 382, was originally planted in 1992 using seeds from Jambi and has not bloomed for 12 years.
Due to the plant’s unique biology where male and female flowers do not mature simultaneously, researchers from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) had to perform manual pollination to ensure its preservation. This blooming is hailed as a major milestone for Indonesia’s flora conservation efforts.
