Inp.polri.go.id - Bagtam. Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian announced on Sunday (21/9/2025) that regional leaders and civil servants may now travel abroad, particularly for medical treatment or official duties, as domestic conditions have stabilized.
The move followed a temporary ban imposed in August amid widespread demonstrations.
“This restriction was due to a vulnerable situation, but now, if officials are confident their regions remain secure, I will allow them to go abroad,” Minister Tito said during a regional administration coordination meeting in Batam, Riau Islands. as reported by antaranews.com.
He stressed that permission would be considered case by case, with priority given to health-related and official assignments.
Home Ministry spokesperson Benny Irawan confirmed that the minister’s earlier ban was linked to protests held across 35 provinces from 25 to 29 August 2025, though most ended peacefully. With the situation calmer, the government has relaxed the rule. The Batam meeting also addressed regional security, fiscal management, and governance priorities for Sumatra’s provincial leaders.
