The Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Indonesia, through its Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI), participated in discussions regarding intellectual property during the 17th round of negotiations for the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU CEPA) Working Group on Intellectual Property (WGIP).
Marchienda Werdany,the Chair of the Foreign Cooperation Task Force at DJKI, highlighted that the aim of the discussions was to ensure robust protection of intellectual property rights for both Indonesia and the European Union.
This, she emphasized, would offer legal certainty for businesses in both regions, antaranews.com reported
"This round is ongoing, with two more sessions planned. We anticipate concluding discussions by July 2024, followed by signing ceremonies by the respective leaders," Marchienda remarked on Friday (1/3/2024).
Marchienda disclosed that several proposals from the European Union were key topics, including the protection of pharmaceutical data, duration of industrial design protection, and management of genetic resources and traditional knowledge.
The IEU CEPA convened in Bandung, West Java, from 26 February to 1 March 2024.
In 2022, Indonesia-EU trade reached $33.2 billion USD, with exports from Indonesia totaling $21.5 billion USD and imports from the EU at $11.7 billion USD.
