Riau Regional Police Forms Joint Unit to Investigate the Death of Sumatran Elephant

Inp.polri.go.id – Pelalawan. Pelalawan Sub-regional Police along with Riau Regional Police formed a special joint unit to investigate the death of Sumatran Elephant of Tesso Nilo National Park. The elephant was found dead and allegedly killed on Wednesday (1/10/2024). “Currently, Pelalawan Sub-regional Police along with Riau Regional Police have formed a joint team to uncover the death of Sumatran Elephant of Tesso Nilo National Park named Rahman. Elephant is among the list of protected animals which is why we will do our best in uncovering the truth behind his death and find the culprit,” says the Pelalawan Sub-regional Police Chief on Friday (1/12/2024). On Wednesday January 10th, 2024 a national park ranger found the elephant lying on the ground and saw that his left ivory was cut and gone. Head of Tesso Nilo National Park Heru Sutmantoro states that his party has followed the instruction of veterinarian to treat the elephant with medicine, milk, and liquified sugar. However sadly, Rahman eventually died. “When an autopsy was carried out towards Rahman by Riau BBKSDA veterinary team, they found that Rahman was poisoned,” says Heru. Afterwards, his party immediately report the case to the police to launch immediate investigation. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
