Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The delegation of Russia's state-owned nuclear corporation, Rosatom, met with President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on Tuesday (13/5/2026) to discuss potential cooperation in peaceful nuclear energy.
The discussions covered large-scale nuclear power plants, small modular reactors, and floating nuclear power units tailored for Indonesia’s archipelagic geography.
"We are ready to offer Indonesia maximum localization of technological processes, from the construction phase of the PLTN to its maintenance," said Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev following the meeting, as quoted by antaranews.com.
He highlighted that floating nuclear plants are an ideal initial solution for remote regions with extensive coastlines.
Indonesia aims to develop 500 megawatts of nuclear capacity by 2030, scaling up to 37 gigawatts by 2060. Likhachev noted that achieving these targets would require large-scale 1,000 to 1,200 megawatt plants, an area where Rosatom currently manages 39 international projects. The proposed partnership also includes nuclear infrastructure development, medical technology, and specialist training.
