Inp.polri.go.id - Serang. Serang Sub-regional Police have foiled an attempt to trafficking four Indonesian migrant workers to Saudi Arabia.
Serang Police Head of Criminal Investigation Unit Assistant Senior Inspector Andy Kurniady ES said on Wednesday (30/10/2024) that the suspect, identified as SA (54), was detained while transporting the four women in a Toyota Rush vehicle en route to Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
SA was believed to have operated an illegal migrant worker recruitment business since 2019, allegedly posing as an employee of the Saudi Arabian Embassy, according to antaranews.com.
Authorities report that he facilitated recruitment without charging the workers for health checks, passport issuance, visas, or flights. He also reportedly paid recruits between Rp2 million to Rp12 million depending on age and experience.
The arrest followed a tip-off, leading the police to intercept SA’s vehicle. Evidence seized includes the vehicle, a cell phone, and airline tickets. SA faces charges under the Anti-Trafficking Law and the Migrant Worker Protection Law, with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
