Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Four of seven homemade bombs prepared by the suspect in the SMA 72 high school explosion detonated within the school compound, Jakarta  Metro Jaya  Regional Police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) Commander Senior Superintendnet Henik Maryanto confirmed Tuesday (11/11/2025).

“Out of seven devices, four exploded, while three remained active and have been safely secured at the Brimob Headquarters,” he said during a press briefing, as reported by antaranews.com.

Investigators identified two blast sites, consisting of one inside the school mosque and another near the waste bank and reading park. Remote controls used to trigger the bombs were found intact at the second location.

At the waste bank, officers discovered four bombs in total, two of which had exploded and two others were neutralized. The devices were constructed using ¾-inch pipe casings and had low-order detonations.

Commander Henik said all unexploded materials were safely defused and the entire area sterilized. 

Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri added that the suspect in the explosion at was known as a withdrawn student with an interest in violent and extreme content. 

Based on police findings, the suspect acted alone and was not linked to any terror network. 

The blast injured 96 people. Sixty-eight victims have been discharged, while 28 remain hospitalized at several Jakarta hospitals. Authorities continue to secure the school area as investigations proceed.
