South Kalimantan Selatan Aims to Harvest 9 Tons of Corn on Swamp Land

inp.polri.go.id - Banjarbaru. South Kalimantan Regional Police, targeting a corn harvest of nine tons per hectare in the swamp land at Gubernur Syarkawi Km 17, Gambut District, Banjar Regency.

"If the first harvest last week produced five tons per hectare, then in the next planting season we are targeting nine tons," said the South Kalimantan Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Rosyanto Yudha Hermawan as reported by the Antaranews on Saturday (6/14/2025).

On this occasion, he revealed that with increasingly fertile soil and seeds that have been researched by a team of agricultural experts from Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM),he believes that they can achieve this new target.

He also said that the research results of the ULM Faculty of Agriculture expert team succeeded in finding seed varieties that are resistant to excess water in swampy areas.

It is known that the corn planted by the South Kalimantan Regional Police is a type of corn for animal feed that is focused on meeting the needs of industry and animal feed from community cultivation.

In addition to helping reduce dependence on commercial concentrate feed, corn for animal feed to meet the needs so that it affects the price of eggs and chicken meat to be cheaper.

"Of course this is a positive effect of corn self-sufficiency in supporting the national food security program as a whole," he explained.

In addition to Banjar Regency, the South Kalimantan Regional Police have mapped idle land in a number of areas that will be worked on for corn farming.

One of them is in Tanah Laut Regency where corn planting will soon be carried out on 3,700 hectares of land.
