Inp.polri.go.id - Makassar. Inspector General Setyo Boedi Moempoeni Harso, the Chief of South Sulawesi Regional Police, has instructed Sub-Regional Police Chiefs to step in and provide drilled wells for residents grappling with a clean water shortage during the dry season. Speaking in Makassar, he emphasized the importance of aid, especially in areas heavily affected by water scarcity due to El Nino.
"If a community experiences a clean water crisis, Sub-Regional Police Chiefs should immediately offer assistance, including the installation of drilled wells if necessary," he said on Sunday (17/9/23).
Revealing that his office has already established 24 drilled well points across 16 Sub-Regional Police divisions in South Sulawesi, he emphasized the program's endorsement by the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (INP), aiming to support communities grappling with water access challenges.
"This drilled well program is part of the Chief of INP's initiative, addressing the impact of the dry season and El Nino," he said as reported by antaranews.com.
Anticipating that the 24 newly established water sources will be a vital resource for local communities facing water-related difficulties, he stressed the need for effective utilization.
He further underscored the importance of Sub-Regional Police Chiefs being responsive to the current conditions, including factors like forest and land fires, stating, "This drought has brought about various challenges, from water scarcity to wildfires. All these issues require close attention, improved services, and heightened supervision."
Earlier, the police chief, along with Makassar Mayor Moh. Ramdhan Pomanto, launched the provision of drilled wells and water pumps in Ketimbang Village, Biringkanaya District.
