Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed that the strong geomagnetic storm occurring globally between 12 to 14 November 2025, has no significant impact on Indonesia’s infrastructure.
“The event was triggered by intense solar activity, specifically an X5.1-class solar flare, one of the strongest categories in space weather observation,” said BMKG geophysicist Syirojudin on Thursday (13/11/2025).
He added that it caused a high-speed plasma ejection and magnetic field known as a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) heading toward Earth, reaching level G4 or severe category.
Monitoring from BMKG’s magnetic observatories in Tondano, Tuntungan, and Serang detected the storm early on 12 November 2025. However, Indonesia’s location near the equator, protected by the Equatorial Electrojet, helped minimize the effects, according to antaranews.com.
Minor disruptions to satellite-based communications, GPS navigation, and high-frequency radio may occur, BMKG warned. The agency urged continued real-time monitoring but assured the public that the magnetosphere shields Indonesia from major risks.
