inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Member of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Nurhadi said that the elimination of tuberculosis (TB), which is included in the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), is not only a medical issue, but also concerns social justice.
He is also concerned that currently TB cases in Indonesia are still high, making the achievement of the 2020-2024 RPJMN not optimal. According to him, the government should not make peace with the death rate from TB, as it can be prevented.
"I believe that this is not only a medical issue, it is also a matter of social justice and the rights of the Indonesian people to live healthily and prosperously," said Nurhadi in a written statement received in Jakarta, quoted by Antaranews on Thursday (5/8/2025).
According to him, last year Indonesia recorded 387 cases of TB per 100,000 residents. This figure makes Indonesia the country with the second highest number of TB cases in the world.
He assessed that the problem of the still rampant TB disease in Indonesia is not only technical, but also concerns the planning and management of programs that are not yet optimal.
"I think this is not just a technical problem but also related to planning or governance that needs to be improved," he said.
He also criticized the fragmentation of program implementation between various government lines and sectors. He also noted that the budget to eliminate TB is already very large, but the implementation has not been optimal.
For that, he proposed that the DPR TB Elimination Working Committee to focus on three important things going forward. The first is a comprehensive evaluation of the realization of the TB elimination program to assess its effectiveness.
Then secondly, he considered that there needs to be a mapping of funding sources and the effectiveness of budget use, including incentive schemes for health facilities, and the role of Village Funds that need to be clarified.
"And finally, the strategic direction of 2025-2029 is concrete and multi-sectoral, not referring to or opting to just copy paste the previous years," he said.
