inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has changed the teaching load for teachers to 16 hours of face-to-face class time per week. This new regulation is referenced through Ministerial Regulation Number 11 of 2025 concerning Fulfillment of Teacher Workload.
Temu Ismail, Secretary General of the Directorate of Teachers, Education Personnel, and Teacher Education at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, stated that this regulation will take effect starting in the 2025/2026 academic year. It replaces Ministerial Regulation Number 15 of 2018 and its 2024 Amendment.
"So, the 24 hours of face-to-face time per week can now be met through core duties and other additional tasks, not just teaching. The minimum teaching load is now 16 hours of face-to-face time per week," he said, as reported by RRI on Monday (7/21/2025).
He explained that the remaining 8 hours of face-to-face time can be met through additional tasks and other additional duties in accordance with Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education regulations.
Temu Ismail added that the remaining eight hours can be filled with guidance and counseling duties, mandatory training, and activities in social organizations.
In line with the change in teaching hours, his office will also continue to intensify training to improve teachers' guidance and counseling (BK) and values education competencies.
The Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education strives to encourage teachers to not only master pedagogical skills but also to be mentors who guide students to optimal development and character.
With reduced face-to-face teaching hours and the requirement to master these two subjects, Temu hopes teachers will be able to shape students' personalities and assist them in addressing and resolving various issues outside of teaching and learning.
