inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Education Standards, Curriculum, and Assessment Agency (BSKAP) of the Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education has launched Disaster Education Guidelines and Technical Instructions for Learning in Disaster-Affected Educational Units.

Toni Toharudin, Head of the Education Standards, Curriculum, and Assessment Agency stated that this strategic step was taken to ensure that students' right to learn is met and to foster a culture of disaster preparedness in schools throughout Indonesia.

"We need to be prepared not only at the government level, but also at the educational unit level to be able to mitigate, survive, and recover post-disaster," stated the Head of BSKAP on Monday (3/2/2026).

Meanwhile, Laksmi Dewi, Head of the Center for Curriculum and Learning at the Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education, stated that in response to disasters, educational units are given full flexibility to independently adjust their curriculum.

The main points in the Technical Instructions are the priority of material, with schools not being required to complete all learning outcomes. The main focus, he continued, is directed at psychosocial support, personal safety, disaster mitigation, and essential literacy and numeracy.

Furthermore, Flexible Assessment allows for simple assessments of learning outcomes, such as portfolios or assignments, without the need for rigid written exams at the end of the semester.

Jamjam Muzaki, Representative of the National Secretariat for Disaster-Safe Education Units (SPAB) at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, explained the importance of understanding risk based on data.

"Currently, more than 50 percent of educational units in Indonesia are exposed to more than one disaster threat. The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education targets that by 2029, 80 percent of local governments will have SPAB regulations and 75 percent of students will be educated to be disaster-prepared," explained the Representative of the National Secretariat for SPAB.
