inp.polri.go.id – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia revealed the condition of Indonesian citizens in South Korea when floods hit Seoul and its surrounding areas since Monday (8/8) night.
"The Indonesian Embassy in Seoul has coordinated with local authorities and contacted Indonesian community. So far, no Indonesian citizens have been directly affected by the flood disaster," said Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, in a release received by CNNIndonesia.com.
"Based on the database of the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul, there are 36,399 Indonesian citizens living in South Korea," he continued.
In addition, Judha explained that flooding in South Korea occurred in the Incheon area, Seoul, as well as some areas in Gyeonggi and Gangwon Provinces. Judha also appealed to the Indonesian people in South Korea to continue to keep up with the information and follow the instructions from local authorities.
As reported by AFP, as many as seven people were killed and seven others missing due to flooding that hit Seoul.
"At least seven people died in the Seoul metropolitan area, while seven others are missing due to heavy rains as of 7:30 a.m. this morning," a South Korean Interior Ministry official told AFP.
This flood was caused by heavy rains that hit the area.
From various photos on social media, it can be seen that people are walking between one meter high puddles. There were also flooded train stations, and pictures of a number of cars covered in water.
