inp.polri.go.id – Batam. The Water and Air Police Unit of North Sumatra Police succeeded in thrashing the smuggling of illegal Indonesian migrant workers from the waters of Asahan, North Sumatra.
The case disclosure was thanks to the information from the public, saying that a ship that will carry 91 illegal Indonesian migrant workers from various regions will set sail to Malaysia. Other than the illegal Indonesian migrant workers, the police also arrested the captain and three of his crew members.
“Yes, we have indeed arrested a total of 91 illegal Indonesian migrant workers. We just helped the operation of Water and Air Police of North Sumatra Police by providing security around the location,” said the Chief of Water and Air Police of Tanjungbalai Police, AKP TP Sianturi, Tuesday (7/26).
All of the illegal migrant workers are secured in the hall of Tanjungbalai Police. Currently, the police is still identifying all of the migrant workers. Meanwhile the captain and his crew is being detained and being examined intensively.
