inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol expressed his concern about North Korea's missile and nuclear threats when meeting President Joko Widodo at the Yongsan Presidential Office, Thursday (28/7).
According to Yoon, Indonesia and South Korea both view the North Korean nuclear threat as worrying because it could damage regional stability and security and even the world. "We share the same view that the missile and nuclear threats from North Korea are worrying," Yoon said at a joint press conference with Jokowi broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube.
He then said. "We agreed to work together to unite the international community in dealing with this."
Yoon's statement came on the same day when North Korea's supreme leader, Kim Jong Un, declared his firm attitude toward South Korea and the United States.
In his speech marking the Commemoration of the Korean War Armistice Day, Thursday (28/7), Kim Jong Un said North Korea was ready to deploy its nuclear weapons and go to war with the US if necessary. Kim Jong Un even threatened to destroy South Korea if they did not stop their provocations, such as doing military exercises with the US.
Apart from North Korea's nuclear test, Jokowi and Yoon discussed a number of things. Starting from cooperation in the economic sector, investment, the development of the Capita City of Nusantara (IKN) project, the KF-21 fighter jet, to regional and global issues.
Yoon also appreciated Indonesia's presidency at this year's G20 forum and said he couldn't wait to attend the summit which will take place in Bali next October. Meanwhile, Jokowi expressed his gratitude for South Korea's support.
Before visiting the South Korean Presidential Palace, Jokowi and his entourage first stopped by the Korean national hero cemetary in Seoul.
