Three Indian Men Face Death Penalty for 106 Kg of Meth Trafficking in Riau Islands

Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. The Riau Islands Prosecutor's Office seeks the detah penalty against three Indian citizens accused of trafficking 106 kilograms of methamphetamine, intercepted in Karimun waters in mid-July.  

"Each suspect faces charges under Articles 113(2), 114(2), and 112(20), in conjunction with Article 132(1) of Law No. 35/2009 on Narcotics, carrying the death penalty," Yusnar Yusuf, the Riau Islands Prosecutor's Office Head of the Legal Information Section, said on Friday (8/11/2024).

The suspects, identified as RN, SD, and GF, were arrested by the National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) and Customs  Office officials while sailing on the Singapore-flagged Legend Aquarius vessel. The meth, reportedly hidden in modified fuel tanks, was intended for distribution in Australia.

The investigation was conducted in coordination with the BNNP, with the evidence and suspects to be transferred for trial. Riau Islands Prosecutors Office has handled 183 narcotics cases this year, issuing eight death penalty and four life imprisonment sentences, affirming its commitment to fighting narcotics crime in Indonesia.
