Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Three police officers who were passengers in an armored vehicle that fatally struck an online motorcycle taxi driver, Affan Kurniawan, during protests in August have been found guilty of ethical violations and ordered to issue formal apologies.
“The Police Ethics Committee ruled that they failed to act responsibly by not reminding the driver or commander during the protest operation that led to the victim’s death,” said the Indonesian National Police (INP) Public Relations Division Unit Head of Public Information Bureau Bureau Senior Superintendent Erdi A. Chaniago, on Friday (10/10/2025).
The officers, identified as Senior Bharada JEB, Senior Bharada YBB and Second Brigadier M, were sanctioned under the Police Ethics Code No. 7/2022, requiring both oral and written apologies, and had already served 20 days of special detention.
With this decision, internal disciplinary proceedings over the armored vehicle incident have concluded.
Chief Erdi stressed that the ruling reflects the INP’s commitment to accountability and discipline, ensuring all personnel, regardless of rank, are held responsible for negligence.
