inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Head of the Indonesian National Police (INP) Traffic Corps, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, instructed his staff to anticipate the potential increase in impromptu travel or unauthorized transportation ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026.

The Head of the Traffic Corps stated that impromptu travel is a potential risk during the homecoming season as many of the vehicles operated do not meet safety standards.

"The vehicles are not necessarily proper for travel, do not undergo ramp checks, and often carry passengers exceeding their capacity. This is very dangerous and we must anticipate this together," explained Agus on Tuesday (1/20/2026).

He stated that the risk of impromptu travel lies not only in the vehicle but also in the driver. Illegal travel drivers, he said, often do not undergo health checks, are drug-free, and have unrestricted working hours. This condition has the potential to cause fatigue, which can lead to traffic accidents, especially on long-distance homecoming routes.

Therefore, in preparation for the 2026 Eid homecoming season, INP Traffic Corps is preparing anticipatory measures by improving supervision and enforcement against illegal travel agencies, inspecting non-regular passenger vehicles, and strengthening integrated ramp checks with relevant agencies.

"We have instructed the Director of Traffic and the Head of Traffic Police to improve supervision along homecoming routes, illegal terminals, rest areas, and passenger departure points. We are also continuing to strengthen coordination with the Transportation Agency, Jasa Raharja, and local governments," explained Agus.

He also urged the public not to be tempted by cheap, unregistered travel services.

"Safety is paramount. Don't neglect safety just because it's cheap and fast. Choose official transportation, roadworthy vehicles, and professional drivers. Have a safe homecoming, and your family will be calm and happy," said Chief Agus.
