inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto has urged all Indonesian universities to strengthen the quality of their human resources (HR) through a culture of academic excellence, in order to create innovations that impact society.
He emphasized that the quality of human resources is a crucial factor in improving a country's capabilities. According to Brian, the testing and accreditation systems must be continuously strengthened through the principle of continuous improvement so that Indonesian graduates have globally recognized competency standards.
"We want Indonesian graduates to have proven quality and be able to compete, including at the international level," said Brian on Monday (5/18/2026).
He believes that the role of lecturers is not only as teachers for academics, but also for character building, work culture, and student mindset.
Therefore, universities are expected to provide a learning environment that encourages the development of a growth mindset and a positive academic culture.
Brian also shared his experiences in academic collaborations with several universities worldwide, including those in Japan, South Korea, and the United States.
According to him, one of the main characteristics of an advanced campus is a work culture that is "perfect in detail," namely attention to quality down to the smallest details in academic services and the campus environment. Therefore, a well-organized, disciplined, and consistent campus atmosphere will shape students' character throughout their education.
"Campus is not just a place to transfer knowledge, but a place to build mindset and character. Students who are accustomed to a positive environment will carry those quality standards with them when they enter society," said Brian.
He emphasized the importance of strengthening service governance for lecturers, including in the career development process and academic promotions.
In addition, he also emphasized the importance of proactive campus management in assisting lecturers in fulfilling academic requirements, scientific publications, and competency development.
