inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Vice Minister of Environment (LH), Diaz Hendropriyono, reminded that environmental restoration is not merely an option, but an absolute requirement for human survival.

"We must live side by side with trees, and ideally, everyone should plant at least one tree. Oxygen is our basic human need and if someone has never planted a tree, they are not their contribution as a human being," said Diaz on Tuesday (1/13/2026).

He highlighted that one human needs approximately 0.5 kilograms of oxygen per day, while one tree can produce up to 1.2 kilograms of oxygen daily. This ratio demonstrates how dependent human existence is on the sustainability of flora.

According to him, planting trees is a tangible form of humanity and responsibility for the climate crisis currently gripping the world.

Echoing Diaz, the President's Special Envoy for Climate Change and Energy Transition, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, highlighted the fact that Indonesia is often a victim of the impacts of climate change, the primary cause of which is actually coming from developed countries.

Hashim mentioned the glaring disparity in carbon emissions. The average Indonesian produces 3 tons of emissions per year, while people in developed countries can produce up to 13 tons of emissions per year per capita.

"As the Vice Minister of Environment and Forestry stated, climate change cannot be addressed immediately. The causes of climate change occur in other parts of the world. This is a harsh reality for Indonesia," said Hashim Djojohadikusumo.
