Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The West Jakarta Sub-regional Police in West Jakarta are investigating the theft of cables from a flood-control pump installed on Sekretaris River, Kebon Jeruk, after footage of the incident went viral on social media. 

The pump, operated by the local Water Resources Department, is part of Jakarta’s emergency system to prevent flooding during the rainy season.

“Investigators from the Kebon Jeruk Police Office Criminal Unit have already checked the scene this morning,” said West Jakarta POlice Head of Public Relations Assistant Senior Inspector  Wisnu Wirawan said on Wednesday (19/11/2025), as reported by antaranews.com

The video, uploaded by Instagram account @warga.jakbar, shows three persons committing the theft in broad daylight. One shirtless man wearing jeans is seen walking on a bridge while carrying a sack believed to contain the stolen cables, before throwing it to two accomplices waiting across the river. They quickly loaded the sack onto a motorcycle and fled, ignoring the witness recording the scene.

The incident has sparked public concern, with critics questioning the security of critical flood-prevention infrastructure.
