Inp.polri.go.id - Padang. The West Sumatra Regional Police uncovered the smuggling of more than 120 kilograms of dried marijuana amid ongoing natural disaster response efforts in the province, officials said on Friday (12/12/2025).
“Some parties tried to exploit the disaster situation, but rest assured Polda Sumbar remains vigilant even while focusing on disaster handling,” West Sumatra Police Deputy Chief Brigadier General. Solihin told a press conference, as cited by antaranews.com
The drugs were seized in two separate operations conducted by the Narcotics Directorate in Agam Regency on 20 November 2025 and Pasaman Regency on 2 December 2025, following orders from West Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Gatot Try Suryanta to maintain strict surveillance.
Police said the marijuana was intended for distribution in Padang and Bukittinggi.
The evidence was destroyed at the West Sumatra Police headquarters and witnessed by prosecutors, customs officials, and community leaders. Police also arrested 12 suspected couriers, who now face narcotics charges.
