Inp.polri.go.id - Wasior. The Wondama Bay Regency in West Papua Province has applied for the Aitumeiri site in Miei village, Wasior District, to be declared a national heritage site by the central government.
Wondama Bay Regent Hendrik Mambor said on Monday (6/11/2023 that the site is currently undergoing temporary revitalization in preparation for its designation as a national heritage site, antaranews.com reported.
The revitalization efforts, starting from the core zone of the Aitumeiri site, involved historians, cultural experts and anthropologists, with the aim of restoring the historical legacy of indigenous Papuan civilisation.
Pastor Antipas Paririe, chairman of the Wondama Bay Christian Church, urged stakeholders in Papua to support the revitalization of the Aitumeiri historical site.
"Funding for the revitalisation of the site will come from the IDR 4 billion allocated in the Wondama Bay regional budget for fiscal year 2023, supplemented by contributions from the central government and the West Papua provincial government," he said.
On 25 October 1925, Reverend I.S. Kijne, a missionary from the Netherlands, established the first formal school on Aitumeiri Hill, marking a new era in Papuan civilisation.
