Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned coastal residents of possible high waves in various Indonesian waters from 6 to 8 November 2023. Eko Prasetyo, the Head of BMKG's Maritime Meteorology Centre, highlighted the areas that will be most affected by the strong winds. These include the southern Sunda Strait, eastern Java Sea, southern Makassar Strait, Selayar Islands, Yos Sudarso waters, Merauke waters and eastern Arafuru Sea, antaranews.com reported. The warning indicates that waves of between 1.25 and 2.5 metres are possible in western Aceh to the Simeuleu Islands, western Mentawai Island waters, Bengkulu-Enggano Island waters, western Lampung waters, the Indian Ocean west of Sumatra, and the western and southern Sunda Straits. Other areas at risk include waters from south Banten to east Java, south Bali to Sumbawa, the southern Bali-Lombok-Alas Strait, waters south of Sumba Island, the Indian Ocean from south Banten to East Nusa Tenggara, the northern Natuna Sea, the eastern Java Sea, the southern Makassar Strait and the eastern Arafuru Sea. BMKG strongly advised the public, especially fishermen, to prioritize vessel safety. This includes exercising extreme caution with fishing boats, barges, ferries and larger vessels such as cargo or cruise ships. (ar/inp/pr/nm)
