inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said Sejong City could be a good reference for Indonesia in building the Capital City of Nusantara (IKN) in East Kalimantan.
Sejong City is the administrative capital of South Korea. The city of Sejong is located about 112 kilometers from the capital city of Seoul.
The statement came when Yoon met Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the Yongsan Presidential Office, Seoul, Thursday (28/7). "South Korea's experience in the development of Sejong City can be used as a good reference for Indonesia," Yoon said during a conference with Jokowi.
The plan to move the capital city from Seoul to Sejong has been arised since 2002. The process of building and moving the capital city from Seoul to Sejong officially began in 2005. This transfer was marked by the passage of the Special Law on Administrative City Development.
The government moved various ministries or state agencies from Seoul to Sejong gradually. Starting from 2012 until the target is completed relocation in 2030.
After being sworn in as the new president of South Korea on May 11, Yoon said he had moved the president's office to Sejong City. Now, the Cheong Wa Dae Presidential Palace or Blue House in Seoul has become a tourism site and can be visited by the public for the first time.
In today's meeting, Jokowi and Yoon also agreed to amend the memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the transfer and development of IKN. "This will be the foundation for South Korean companies to make a major contribution to infrastructure development, an electronic-based government system or smart city in the new capital city in Indonesia," Yoon said.
Meanwhile, Jokowi welcomed the signing of the MoU. He also said that Indonesia and South Korea had started cooperation in the development of IKN. "This includes cooperation in the field of development, drinking water supply systems and capacity building in the field of smart city development," Jokowi said at the conference.
In Indonesia, the process of moving the state capital has been formalized through Law Number 3 of 2022. The government will move the state capital from DKI Jakarta to the Capital City of Nusantara.
The relocation will be carried out gradually from 2022 to 2045.
