Minister Abdul Kadir to Meet President to Talk About Migrant Workers

inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), Abdul Kadir Karding, visited the Presidential Office, Jakarta. Minister Karding to meet President Prabowo Subianto.

"Today's meeting agenda is just a report to the president. A report on migrant workers," he said, as reported on the RRI page, Friday (03/14/25).

There are two things he wants to report to President Prabowo, namely the first is the formation of a coordination desk for the protection of migrant workers.

Through the desk, governance will be improved and violence and human trafficking against Indonesian workers abroad will be reduced.

On his occasion, he said that 95 percent of Indonesian migrant workers are not in accordance with procedures, aka illegal. In addition, 80 percent of Indonesian migrant workers are in the domestic sector or domestic assistants.

"Skills must be improved. We already have 80 percent domestic migrant workers," he said.

According to him, there are four ways that must be done to prevent illegal workers abroad, namely first, improving regulations, second, taking action against brokers and syndicates.

"Third, massive socialization is needed so that people understand how to work procedurally and safely. Fourth, we lock bilateral agreements and this is important, we lock protection," he explained.

Through the agreement, the minister hopes that the destination country will not accept illegal workers. Minister Karding will also report plans to open cooperation with Saudi Arabia.
