Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia is set to host the 2024 GAMMA World MMA Championship in Banten, with over 500 athletes from 42 countries competing from December 11–14 at the Dewa MMA Arena.
“This year, around 500 athletes from 42 of GAMMA’s 70 member nations have registered,” said Tommy Paulus, Chairman of the Indonesian Mixed Martial Arts Federation (Pertacami), during a press conference at the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Tuesday (19/11/2024)
ndonesia was chosen to host the event by the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA). Paulus noted that preparations are progressing well, despite some challenges. Athlete registration, initially closed, was extended to November 20 following a request from China’s MMA President.
Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo praised Pertacami’s efforts in bringing the world championship to Indonesia, expressing hope that the event will help identify top MMA talent to represent Indonesia in future international tournaments.
“MMA in Indonesia should grow stronger and more focused, as it’s set to dominate multi-sport events like the SEA Games and Asian Games,” Dito said. He also emphasized the potential for Indonesian fighters to excel in professional MMA globally.
