Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. Over 13,000 pecalang traditional Balinese security officers gathered in Denpasar to formally declare their rejection of criminal elements disguised as civil society organizations, locally known as ormas, particularly those originating from outside Bali.
The declaration on Saturday (17/5/2025), initiated by Pasikian Pecalang Bali, is a collective response to rising concern over ormas accused of committing violence and intimidation under the guise of social order. The event was held at Niti Mandala Renon Field and supported by Bali’s traditional village leadership.
“Pecalang have safeguarded Bali long before formal organizations came. We reject any form of thuggery disguised as community service,” said Ida Penglingsir Agung Putra Sukahet, the Chair of the Bali Traditional Village Council (MDA), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Three key points were declared: rejecting ormas linked to violence, supporting the military and the police in maintaining public order, and urging firm action against criminal ormas. Organizers also called on the Bali administraiton to provide incentives for pecalang, whose roles extend to securing major national and international events.
