Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) expressed deep condolences on Sunday (1/3/2026) following the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed during recent joint military strikes by Israel and the United States.
In an official statement signed by MUI Chairman Anwar Iskandar, the council condemned the escalations, citing violations of humanitarian values and international law. The MUI highlighted that while Iranian retaliations targeted military bases, recent strikes by Israel and the U.S. reportedly struck civilian infrastructure, including a primary school.
"MUI conveys deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as a result of the Israel-American attacks," he said as quoted by antaranews.com.
The council warned that these military actions threaten to plunge the Middle East into a broader regional war. Furthermore, MUI urged the Indonesian government to withdraw from the U.S.-led "Board of Peace," arguing the body has been ineffective in securing Palestinian independence and maintaining regional stability amidst the current geopolitical crisis
