inp.polri.go.id - North Sumatra. The North Sumatra Regional Police intensified its anti-narcotics campaign through a major 72-hour operation across various jurisdictions on Saturday (5/16/2026).
During the operation, police uncovered 134 drug cases and apprehended 179 suspects suspected of being involved as users, distributors, and dealers.
In addition to making arrests, officers also cleared several locations suspected of being drug hubs. Twenty-six barracks and huts frequently used for drug transactions and abuse were dismantled and destroyed to disrupt the circulation of these illicit goods.
North Sumatra Regional Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Superintendent Ferry Walintukan, emphasized that the operation was carried out simultaneously by all ranks as a commitment to eradicating drugs at its roots.
"All personnel are mobilizing to take action against drug networks, from users to dealers to the main dealers. Locations used as drug dens are also the primary targets of the operation," he said.
From the operation, police seized various pieces of evidence, including 937.71 grams of marijuana, 491.76 grams of methamphetamine, 76.50 ecstasy pills, and four vape devices containing etomidate.
The largest seizure was recorded in the Mandailing Natal region, with 166.25 grams of methamphetamine and 211.50 grams of marijuana.
Ferry added that the demolition of drug barracks was carried out to prevent the locations from being used for illegal activities again.
"We want to break the chain of drug distribution, so not only are the perpetrators prosecuted, but the places used for drug activity are also destroyed," he said.
The North Sumatra Regional Police confirmed that drug eradication operations will continue to be expanded to protect the public, especially the younger generation, from the threat of drug abuse.
