inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Director General of Corrections, Mashudi, stated that 36 Free Nutritional Meal (MBG) kitchens, built on correctional grounds across Indonesia, will be ready to operate by the end of May 2026.
"Hopefully, they will be operational by the end of May. Currently, there are 18 (locations) plus another 18, so 36 kitchens have been completed and built. They will be operational by the end of May," said Mashudi, Thursday (5/7/2026).
According to him, the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections is supporting the MBG Program by facilitating the construction of prison land for the construction of MBG kitchens, or Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG).
The Directorate General of Corrections has been allocated 70 MBG kitchen locations. Construction is underway and 36 are ready to operate this year.
He explained that the MBG kitchens will be built either outside the prison grounds or within the prison grounds. Under this program, the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is guaranteed to pay the rental fees, which are deposited into the state treasury as Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP).
In addition to providing land for rent as MBG kitchen locations, the Directorate General of Corrections also supports the MBG kitchens by providing kitchen staff, involving inmates.
Of the 46 MBG kitchen workers, 26 are professionals, and the remaining 20 are inmates.
Mashudi emphasized that inmates employed in the MBG kitchens have undergone rigorous selection and assessments, including ensuring good health.
"There will be 46 workers, 26 of whom will be professionals, and 20 will be inmates who have been assessed to work in the kitchen to serve the MBG," he said.
Moreover, Mashudi stated that his office has proposed utilizing prison land as MBG kitchens. A total of 119 locations were proposed out of 627 prisons and detention centers across Indonesia, with only 36 approved.
He said the MBG kitchens on prison land are located in several regions, including Sumatra, Sulawesi, and several other provinces.
