Inp.polri.go.id - Bandarlampung. The Bakauheni Port Police Office in South Lampung have intercepted an attempted smuggling of 458 illegally traded wild birds.
The operation was conducted jointly with the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), the Quarantine Office, and the Indonesian Wildlife Network (JSI) during a routine Seaport Interdiction check on Friday night.
“During inspection, officers grew suspicious of a bus and discovered stacks of white crates filled with wild birds at the rear upper section,” said Assistant Senior Inspector Ferdo Elfianto, the Bakauheni Port Police Chief, on Saturday (15/11/2025), as cited by antaranews.com.
The birds were being transported without mandatory documentation and were reportedly headed to Jakarta.
According to the driver, the shipment originated from Bandar Jaya, Central Lampung. All birds have been handed over to Lampung Quarantine officials.
Police warn that Bakauheni Port remains a major gateway for illegal wildlife trafficking into Java.
