Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has issued a stern warning against the buying and selling of bank accounts, a practice increasingly prevalent on social media.
Authorities emphasized that original account holders remain legally liable for all transactions, even those facilitating criminal activities such as money laundering or online gambling. To combat this, OJK is coordinating with law enforcement and the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs to track illicit account transfers.
“Account owners hold full legal responsibility for every transaction made under their name, including those used for criminal offenses,” said Dian Ediana Rae, the OJK’s Executive Head of Banking Supervision, on Sunday (15/2/2026), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Under OJK Regulation No. 8/2023, financial institutions must strictly enforce "Know Your Customer" protocols to detect suspicious profiling. OJK has directed banks to restrict access for individuals identified in account-trading schemes.
