Approximately 508 regencies/cities from 514 regencies/cities in Indonesia officially participated in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Election. “From the 514 regencies/cities in Indonesia, only 508 participated in the Simultaneous Regional Head Election. This is because six regencies/cities of Jakarta will not participate,” said Chairperson of General Election Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy’ari on Tuesday. Hasyim says that the 2024 Regional Head Election voting day would be on November 27th, 2024. The simultaneous election would also only be held in 37 provinces out of 38 provinces. “As of now, the election for Yogyakarta head remains the same, which was not elected through vote,” said Hasyim. It is worth to note that Yogyakarta has special regulation which states that the region’s governor would always be the Sultan, or king, of Yogyakarta with the vice governor is the Adipati Paku Alam.
