Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. The Aceh administration is preparing a 1992 joint agreement document signed with North Sumatra as the basis for its claim over four disputed islands, ahead of a meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs scheduled for Tuesday.
“Yes, thankfully, we do have that document,” said Syakir, Head of the Bureau of Governance and Regional Autonomy at the Aceh Secretariat, during a student protest at the Governor’s Office on Monday (16/6/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.
The 1992 agreement, signed by then-Governors Ibrahim Hasan of Aceh and then-Governor Raja Inal Siregar of North Sumatra and witnessed by then-Minister of Home Affairs Rudini, affirms that the islands fall under Aceh’s territory.
The islands—Panjang, Lipan, Mangkir Gadang, and Mangkir Ketek—are located in Aceh Singkil but were recently designated by a 2025 Home Affairs decree as part of Central Tapanuli, North Sumatra.
Aceh officials argue the agreement is binding and supported by Government Regulation No. 141/2017, urging President Prabowo to resolve the issue in Aceh’s favor.
