The Ministry of Agriculture and the Indonesian National Police Special Counterterrorism Special Deatchment Densus 88 are working together to strengthen food self-sufficiency by involving former terrorism convicts and former Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) members in agricultural programs.
Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Suliman announced the partnership on Thursday (2/1/12025), which includes mentoring 2,285 former terrorism convicts and 8,140 former JI members through training and support under the Food Self-Sufficiency Brigade.
“They are our brothers and sisters. We will provide assistance,” he said during the agreement signing in Jakarta, as reported by antaranews.com.
Agriculture, considered a vital sector for economic growth and job creation, is expected to empower thes, to become productive contributors. Previous collaborations with correctional facilities have shown positive outcomes, and this partnership aims to expand those efforts.
Densus 88 Chief Inspector General Sentot Prasetyo highlighted ongoing rehabilitation efforts that categorize individuals based on ideological risks, with "green" indicating full reintegration. Successful harvests in Lampung, Banten, and East Java demonstrate the program's potential.
“We hope this collaboration grows and benefits society, particularly ex-napiter,” he said.
