Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. A peaceful general election has become the common goal for many, especially the government. In realizing the goal, the government urges the general public to be wiser and not to spread hoaxes in digital spaces or social media. “Let’s be smarter. Show your supported candidates their best sides instead of slandering or spreading hoaxes,” says the Communication and Informatics Minister, Budi Arie Setiadi in Jakarta on Sunday (1/21/2024). Budi says one month ahead the election voting day, his party has found many hoaxes, related to the election topics, spreading around the digital space. However, he said that the number of these hoaxes are still lower than those in the 2019 General Election. “However, the public are still urged to use the digital space so that people would remain productive as the election times are going,” Budi continues. On this occasion, unfortunately Budi did not detail the number of hoaxes for the past month ahead election day. Nevertheless, as of January 2023 to January 2024, the Communication and Informatics Ministry has found 201 hoaxes related to the election. “So far, most contents were only taken down and none of them were continued to be processed legally,” told Budi.
