inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Trade Budi Santoso asked the public to be smart consumers by buying domestic products, especially during Ramadan and approaching Eid al-Fitr.
He appealed to the public not to buy used clothing imported illegally.
"Approaching Eid al-Fitr, public consumption usually increases, both in food and clothing. It is better for the public to prioritize domestic products and not buy used clothing, especially imported used clothing," explained the Minister of Trade on Thursday (3/13/2025).
The increasing number of imported used clothing with cheap selling prices compared to local products, said Budi, can harm the local garment industry.
In addition, used clothing can have an impact on health because used clothing has the potential to carry diseases from the country of origin. Used clothing can also carry hazardous contamination such as mold/fungus that can cause itching and allergic reactions on the skin.
There are a number of steps in resolving the problem of the circulation of imported used clothing, one of which is supervision on used clothing that enters illegally.
"Considering that used clothing has been banned from importing, synergy and joint supervision are needed in accordance with the respective authorities, including with the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, Marine Security Agency, military, and police at rat ports/unofficial routes, including the participation of local governments," explained the Minister Budi in his conclusion.
