inp.polri.go.id – Papua. The Papuan Police (Polda Papua) once again reported the violence carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in the Papua region. Head of Public Relations (Kabid Humas) of Polda Papua, Commissioner Drs. Ahmad Mustofa Kamal, S.H., said the KKB attacked a patrol police officer, in the Baya District, Paniai Regency, Papua.
Kabid Humas Polda Papua said that there were no casualties in the attack. However, he said, the attack resulted in the burning of 15 residential units, a health center, and a residential complex for teachers and lecturers in the area.
“11 units of houses for residents in location 81 were burned. In location 45, 4 residential units, teachers, including health centers were also burned by KKB," said Kamal, in a press release received by Republika, in Jakarta, Sunday (20/03/22).
The Papuan Police believe that the attack was carried out by KKB Lewis Kogoya, led by Undius Kogoya. The attack, said Kamal, occurred on Saturday (19/3) afternoon. From the initial report, the chronology of the attack occurred when members of the Ndetadi 99 Police were patrolling Location 99, Location 45, and Location 81.
When they patroled from Location 99 to Location 81, the Papuan Regional Police Intermediate Officer said that Bripda Zulkarnaen Sommeng, who was in the front row of the patrol, was attacked.
"Bripda Zulkarnen was about to return to Location 81 with three other patrol personnel," said Kamal.
On his way to Location 81, Bripda Zulkarnaen, along with three personnel, saw two armed civilians from the bushes, and they shoot them. Bripda Zulkarnaen and three of his patrol personnel returned fire. Bripda Zulkarnaen, along with three other patrol members, also asked for reinforcement from members at Post 99.
Bripda Zulkarnaen along with three other personnel were forced to hide while heading to Location 81. At around 20:30 local time, personnel from Post 99 managed to pick up Bripda Zulkarnaen and three other personnel. However, the patrol personnel received news that Location 45 and Location 81 were attacked several residents' houses were burned.
"In Location 45, 4 units of residents' houses were burned, while at Location 81, there were 11 residents' houses that were burned. No casualties were found in this incident," said Commissioner Drs. Ahmad Mustofa Kamal, S.H.
Due to this incident, the police team from the Pania Police were mobilized to Location 99 to reinforce the security forces in ensuring the security of the region.
