inp.polri.go.id - Serang. The Banten Regional Police General Criminal Investigation Directorate has uncovered a case of alleged sexual harassment on the Untirta campus. Investigators have questioned the accused, identified as MZ, as a witness.

The Head of Public Relations of the Banten Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Maruli Ahiles Hutapea, explained that the investigation revealed that the accused, MZ, admitted to recording the victim. He also admitted to recording the victim in several other locations.

Based on the information obtained, MZ committed the act five times: twice in a campus restroom and three times at a gas station restroom in Banten.

"In addition to recording the victim, the accused, MZ, also confessed to the act, as evidenced by video evidence found on his cellphone by investigators," said the Head of Public Relations of the Banten Regional Police, Thursday (4/9/2026).

He added that this testimony was supported by evidence secured by investigators, including video files from the victim's cellphone and a flash drive. Maruli explained that the method used in this case was to record the incident with a cell phone through a gap or ventilation opening above the toilet.

Maruli said that the investigation revealed that the video was used for personal gain. He confirmed that investigators are continuing their investigation to fully uncover the facts and shed light on the incident.

He added that investigators will conduct a case review to elevate the case to the investigation stage for further processing. In this case, the defendant is suspected of violating Article 14 paragraph (1) letter a of Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning the Crime of Sexual Violence, which carries a maximum prison sentence of four years.

"We urge all parties, including campus managers and public facilities such as gas stations, to improve supervision and ensure the security of facilities, especially in sensitive areas such as public restrooms, including by providing symbols or signs in these areas. Women are particularly vulnerable to exploitation and therefore need maximum protection," he explained.
